In May of 2009, the Swedish developer began to create the sandbox game where gamers are free to extract raw materials, craft tools, items, build infrastructure, explore or do whatever they want. The endless worlds contains a variety of biomes from jungles, deserts, snow and more. Players can create nearly any structure imaginable due to the huge variety of blocks. Initially there were 2 game modes, creative and survival, but recently other modes such as Adventure, Spectator, Multiplayer and Story Mode have been added. It was officially released on the 18th of November 2011 by Mojang Studios.

Mojang did not spend any money on advertising but instead relied on magazines like Penny Arcade and gamers to spread the game.

The beta version of the game had been released on January in 2011 and had over 1 million purchases in the first month and by April $33 million of revenue had been made.

Before the game was officially released, 4 million copies had been bought and 16 million users had registered.

Minecraft Pocket Edition was released on Sony Xperia Smartphones and not long after was released on Android and iOS.
